As I pull together my thoughts on the struggles of life I seem to lean towards the opportunities in each situation. But how often do we have a global struggle that gives each and every person the opportunity to re-focus and decide what path they want to take? This doesn’t happen, ever!
Here are the 7 ways to a fresh start.
1. Try new things.
What a glorious thought to be able to try new things! We let the fear of the unknown and not being in control stop us. But pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones is good for us. Trying new things not only helps us to overcome those fears, but it also allows us to expand our minds and learn. What will you learn about yourself?
2. Be selfish
Is being selfish a good thing? As we're raised our teachers, friends, parent's or at your local church leaders tell us being selfish is a terrible thing. What this does is it actually teaches us to NEVER think about ourselves because its “bad”.
The bad kind of selfish is when you take advantage of others or a situation that starts with a negative emotion such as anger, envy or arrogance. To be able to love and care for others to the fullest we must first love and nurture ourselves.
3. Stop being afraid
Everyone deals with fear everyday and fear isn’t always a bad thing. It’s an inbuilt human survival instinct and is here to protect us. Fear becomes bad when fear blocks our opportunity or action. Fear forces you to examine the real or imagined barriers that are holding you back from achieving your goals.
4. Personal development
Personal development is all about investing in yourself so that you can manage yourself regardless of what life brings your way. Rather than waiting for things to happen in your life, you get out there and make your life happen. You don’t always win but you will always learn.
Personal development also intensifies your focus and direction and helps you become very self ware. Which is an important step in becoming the new you as you start fresh.
5. Be involved with nature
One of the most fantastic things is that nature surrounds us all. We all strongly desire the great outdoors. To smell the fresh air, to have the warm sun hugging our body or to experience a new journey. Its so close but seems so far away.
Start by taking a small hike every weekend and while your on your hike close your eyes periodically and take a deep breath. The greatest feeling is when you become present in nature.
6. Forgive and ask for forgiveness
When someone hurts us we feel that we now have the right to hurt them, for hurting us. In other words someone does something to you and then you have the right to keep them in your imaginary prison.
Forgiveness says I do not have to hear you say I am sorry in order for me to move forward with my life.
Forgiveness is designed to set the victim free. Let me say that again, forgiveness is to set the victim free. When you forgive someone, it sets YOU free.
7. Take a break from social media
As convenient as social media is to share photos and reconnect to long lost family and friends it rarely amounts to that. As you know social media generally translates to hours and hours of time wasted and more importantly an accumulation of negative emotions. Emotions such as jealousy, anger, hate and frustration.
As your taking steps to getting a fresh start, start with taking a break from social media. It will help you live in the moment, enjoy the little things and give you tons of free time.
Isn’t it nice to know that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?
When you let go of what didn’t work, what held you back previously, or wipe out those fears that don’t deserve to rule you anymore, you create room to become a more passionate, engaged and inspiring you.
